Binance Bolsters Circle's Bid for Stablecoin Supremacy
Circle's USDC stablecoin has gained significant ground in global trading and emerging markets after its expanded partnership with Binance. The exchange, which is one of the largest in the world, invested $100 million in Circle shares and signed a new five-year commercial agreement to promote USDC and integrate it across its platform.
The deal, announced on January 14th, has already shown promising results. Data from Kaiko shows that Binance's USDC spot markets have more than doubled since the first partnership was announced in December 2024, reaching 329 by late 2024. This is a significant increase from the 39 markets available in 2021.
Anastasia Melachrinos, head of research at Kaiko, noted that Binance's dominance in USDC spot trading activity is likely to grow even further as it accelerates its reach in emerging markets. However, Tether still holds a significant lead with a market capitalization of about $140 billion compared to USDC's $74 billion.
