Binance Dives Deep into Stablecoin Market with $100M Circle Investment
Binance has invested $100 million in Circle, acquiring 1.24 million Class A shares at $80.84 each through a private placement.
The shares were purchased on September 17, and come with a two-year lock-up period during which Binance cannot sell or transfer them.
The deal also includes a five-year commercial agreement for the promotion of USDC on Binance's platform.
Under this framework, Circle will pay Binance a monthly fee based on the amount of USDC held through Circle's Modular Smart Contract Wallet service.
Binance's co-CEO Richard Teng views this as a long-term bet, stating 'A stable, reliable digital dollar should not be a privilege, but should be available to anyone with a phone.'
