The world's largest crypto exchange, Binance, is facing fresh scrutiny from U.S. prosecutors over potential Iran sanctions breaches.

According to reports, federal authorities are investigating whether Binance knowingly allowed certain transactions to proceed on its platform, violating U.S. sanctions on Iran.

The probe, led by the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office and involving the DOJ's criminal division in Washington, focuses on Binance's sanctions compliance controls and whether the exchange was aware of the trading activity in question.

This investigation adds to existing scrutiny dating back to March, when the DOJ examined whether Iran used Binance to evade U.S. sanctions.
