Binance Invests $100M in Circle, Rekindles Strategic Partnership for Global Stablecoin Push
Binance has made a significant investment in Circle Internet Group, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin. As part of this expanded strategic partnership, Binance will promote USDC globally, with a focus on emerging markets. This deal deepens an existing relationship between the two companies and comes as stablecoins gain a larger role in cryptocurrency trading and digital payments.
The investment involves $100 million worth of Circle Class A common stock purchased by Binance through a private placement. The shares were bought at a price representing a 5% discount to Circle's market price prior to the transaction closing. Richard Teng, co-CEO of Binance, noted that the company has 'long-duration conviction' in Circle and its digital-asset infrastructure.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said Binance had built one of the world's largest platforms for using digital currencies and was among the most widely used wallets for dollar stablecoins. He sees opportunities to leverage USDC to expand dollar access, support savings and investment with innovative digital asset products, and reach people and businesses throughout global emerging markets.
