Binance Reserves Hit New High as Bitcoin's August Rally Raises Warning Signs
Bitcoin's August rally of nearly 24% has brought the asset from the $60,000s to briefly over $80,000. However, three warning signs have emerged as the month comes to a close.
Exchange balances, exchange-traded fund (ETF) flows, and spot demand have all turned less supportive during the closing days of August. Binance's Bitcoin reserves have climbed to roughly 687,000 BTC, the highest level recorded in 2026, according to CryptoQuant data.
This surge in supply is concerning, as traders usually move coins onto an exchange to sell or post collateral. The number alone proves nothing, but wallet reorganizations and custody shifts also lift exchange balances. With less idle cash ready to absorb it, this additional supply may put pressure on the market.
ETF inflows have cooled off, with a $201.8 million net outflow on August 28, ending nine consecutive days of inflows. Weekly flows also fell, down 51.8% to $924.5 million in the week ending August 28.
Some analysts believe leverage is driving the move, as spot participation remains flat. Bitcoin's seasonality also offers thin comfort, with an average loss of 3.08% for September since 2013.
