Binance has taken a significant step to maintain its presence in Brazil by applying for a cryptocurrency service provider license ahead of a regulatory deadline. The exchange submitted its application through its local entity, BBrasil, on Friday, Oct. 23, to the Central Bank of Brazil. This move comes as the country requires existing crypto service providers to seek authorization by Friday, Oct. 30, to continue operating under transitional arrangements.
The application aims to ensure Brazilian users can keep accessing crypto assets, stablecoin trading, payments, and investment services. However, Binance has also announced restrictions on certain services for Brazilian users, including crypto lending and margin trading, effective Tuesday. Additionally, the exchange is delisting 22 crypto assets in the country.
Thiago Sarandy, Binance’s general manager in Brazil, emphasized the company’s support for a regulated market that considers the unique characteristics of virtual assets. He expressed hope that ongoing dialogue with the Central Bank will allow the reintroduction of discontinued products in the near future.
It’s important to note that filing an application does not guarantee regulatory approval, and Binance’s actions are part of its efforts to comply with current regulations in Brazil.
