Binance Sees Largest Bitcoin Outflows in Three Years Amid Stablecoin Inflows
Binance experienced its largest weekly Bitcoin outflow in over three years during the fourth week of September, with net outflows reaching 23,137 BTC. This marked the highest outflow since June 2023 when the exchange saw a massive drop of 44,942 BTC in a single week.
Despite the outflow, the funds are not leaving the crypto ecosystem but are instead arriving at Binance in the form of stablecoins. This suggests a strategy of reloading rather than exiting. According to CryptoQuant, whale entities increased their stablecoin inflows to Binance by 40% between August 15 and the end of September, rising from $21.7 billion to $30.5 billion.
CryptoQuant interprets this behavior as a long-term investment signal rather than a sign of fear. The accumulation of stablecoins on exchanges, seen as "dry powder," indicates mounting interest in increasing capital exposure to cryptoassets. However, it remains unclear whether this cash is specifically aimed at altcoins or Bitcoin.
Bitcoin's price has been trading in a range between $82,500 and $87,400 since September 21. CryptoQuant suggests that the combination of accumulation and fading sellers could push Bitcoin out of its current consolidation phase fairly quickly. Historical data from June 2023 shows that following significant Binance outflows, Bitcoin's price increased from $26,300 to $30,500 in the subsequent weekly candle.
