Binance Under Sanctions Risk as EU Regulators Review Exception

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, is facing potential sanctions in Europe as regulators review its use of an exception to serve some customers without a MiCA license.

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and regulators in France, Germany, and Greece are assessing whether Binance meets the conditions of the 'reverse solicitation' exception, which allows companies outside the EU to meet customer requests under certain conditions.

If the exchange's interpretation of the exception is rejected, it could face sanctions proceedings. The review centers on whether Binance directed EU customers to itself through advertising or other means, or if they initiated contact entirely on their own initiative.
