BIS Probes XRP Ledger for Official Statistic Anchoring
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has conducted a proof-of-concept test using XRP Ledger to anchor official statistics on-chain.
The working paper, titled Working Paper No. 1374, explored how statistical agencies can provide users with an independent way to verify the origin and integrity of published data without modifying their existing dissemination systems.
The BIS tested public blockchains before, including Project Mariana, which trialed wholesale central bank digital currency settlement on a public chain with the central banks of France, Singapore, and Switzerland.
The system used Canonical XML 1.1 to normalize each file, hashed it with SHA3-512 at the whole-file and per-series level, and collapsed those hashes into one Merkle root written to the Memos field of an XRP Ledger Payment transaction.
