Bitcoin Active Addresses Surge Amid Security Concerns and Whale Movements
Bitcoin active addresses have seen a significant surge to 0.98 million daily over the last 24 hours, according to Glassnode data. This increase may be attributed to security concerns rather than renewed investor demand.
The rise in active addresses coincided with the transfer of 49.97 BTC, worth approximately $3.23 million, by an early Bitcoin holder who had kept their coins unopened for almost 15 years.
This 'Bitcoin OG whale' received their first Bitcoin on July 16, 2011, when it was trading at around $10. Over the holding period, the holdings have increased in value by more than 634,000%.
Another early investor moved 50 BTC, worth about $3.22 million, after ten months of inactivity. This cluster had previously sent funds to new addresses before transferring them to exchanges or FalconX, a pattern that may signal preparation for an over-the-counter (OTC) sale.
