Bitcoin Breaks Above 50-Week Moving Average Amid Bull Market Hopes
Bitcoin has closed above its 50-week moving average for the first time in over 10 months, a potential signal that the bear market may be ending.
The last weekly close above this level was on November 9, 2025, according to TradingView. The current price of $81,159 on Coinbase is also the highest weekly close in four months.
Galaxy Research's Alex Thorn described the 50-week moving average as a ceiling during bear markets, saying that it has served as a confirmation of the end of a bear market in all but one instance. Thorn noted that reclaiming this level has previously led to significant price gains for Bitcoin, with the cryptocurrency increasing by between 700% and 900% after breaking above the 50-week moving average in previous cycles.
However, Bitget chief analyst Ryan Lee cautioned that one weekly close is not enough to confirm a bull market, saying that it's essential to see if Bitcoin can stay above the 50-week average and form higher lows. Lee also noted that failed reclaims have occurred in previous cycles when the macro environment remained difficult.
