Bitcoin Community Acts on Quantum Computing Risk

Asset manager VanEck's Head of Digital Assets Research, Matthew Sigel, has spoken out about the potential threat of quantum computing to Bitcoin. According to him, while the risk is real, the community recognizes it and is actively working on solutions.

The fear is that a powerful enough quantum computer could break Bitcoin's cryptography, allowing for unauthorized access to the network. However, major companies in the space, including Coinbase and Blockstream, are already exploring ways to mitigate this risk.

One approach being considered is the use of post-quantum signatures, which would make it difficult for a future quantum computer to compromise the network. This technology is still in its early stages, but Sigel believes that significant progress will be made in the next few years.
