Bitcoin Community Prepares for Quantum Computing Threat
Bitcoin's community recognizes the risk of quantum computing, but machines capable of breaking its cryptography do not yet exist. According to VanEck's Head of Digital Assets Research, Matthew Sigel, this is a recognized risk that the community is working to address.
The crypto space has sounded the alarm about hypothetical advancements in quantum computers that could potentially break Bitcoin's cryptography. However, quantum computers currently make mistakes and do not have the capability to break Bitcoin's cryptography.
Despite the decentralized nature of the network, which can slow down upgrades, the community is working on solutions. Major companies such as Coinbase and Blockstream are already working on post-quantum signing pipelines using secure enclaves and threshold cryptography.
