Bitcoin Defies Interest Rate Hike with Resilient Price Action
Bitcoin has shown remarkable resilience in the face of the recent interest rate hike by the United States Federal Reserve (Fed). The cryptocurrency's price held firm near $76,663 after the agency announced a 25-basis-point increase in interest rates, marking its first recorded since 2023.
The Fed's decision typically puts pressure on risk assets, including traditional equities, due to reduced liquidity in financial markets. However, Bitcoin's reaction was different from what some analysts expected. Instead of retreating, the leading cryptocurrency maintained its price and even registered a slight increase of 1.35% in the 24 hours following the announcement.
The resilience of Bitcoin suggests that the market had already largely priced in the Fed's decision. This ability to absorb macroeconomic shocks will be tested again in the coming months as analysts point out that another rate hike could represent a bigger surprise than the current adjustment.
