Bitcoin Derivatives Show Split Personality Amidst Bullish Ambition

Bitcoin derivatives have been witnessing a surge in activity as the price of Bitcoin trades around $84,000. Futures open interest has climbed back towards $60 billion, while options open interest has jumped above $50 billion.

Calls are dominating existing options positions, totaling 362,972.08 BTC, while puts account for 58.2% of 24-hour volume, or 40,204.83 BTC. This divergence between positioning and recent flow suggests that traders are taking on significant exposure to potential upside while also hedging their bets with downside protection.

The largest open-interest position at Deribit is the Oct. 30 $95,000 call at 23,274.9 BTC, but the most heavily traded contract is Thursday's $80,000 put. This mixed signal from traders indicates a bullish ambition that also includes an insurance policy.
