Bitcoin Surges Past $86,000 as Short Squeeze and Leveraged Bets Drive Rally
Bitcoin's price has broken through $86,000, and market analysts are predicting it could reach $90,000. The catalyst for this surge is a combination of Strategy resuming its Bitcoin buying spree and a massive short squeeze that wiped out $750 million in bearish bets.
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, bought 950 BTC for $75.7 million at an average price of $79,670 per coin last week. While this purchase was modest compared to Strategy's previous buying activity, it has contributed to the bullish narrative around Bitcoin.
The short squeeze that pushed Bitcoin from $82,000 to $86,000 in a matter of hours is also a key factor driving the price increase. However, experts are warning that the $2 billion in new leveraged exposure since the breakout poses a significant risk to the market.
