Bitcoin developers have unveiled a quantum-resistant roadmap to counter the threat of quantum computers, which could break cryptography by 2030. The rapid advancement of quantum computing poses a significant risk to crypto asset security.

A recent report by Christine Kim, a major Bitcoin developer, highlighted that quantum computers are advancing rapidly and could make asymmetric cryptography powerless after 2030. This has prompted digital networks to enforce swift and stringent security measures to counter the threat.

The post-quantum security roadmap aims to proactively protect against potential threats from quantum computing by providing end-to-end security for the blockchain infrastructure, validators, private states, and wallets. The plan focuses on providing a comprehensive solution to the long-term risk.

Bitcoin developers have proposed a key priority for layer-1 network to accomplish quantum resistance across data layers, consensus, and execution by December 2029. This timeline coincides with phased migration plans from institutions including Microsoft, Cloudflare, and Google, which set December 2029 as the deadline for transitioning to post-quantum cryptography.
