Bitcoin Distribution Phase Raises Bearish Odds Amid Uncertainty

Bitcoin's weekly chart has formed a pattern known as a distribution phase, which has appeared twice before in the last two bear markets. This setup can be identified by lower highs and lower lows, where prices test a range's top and bottom before breaking out. In this case, Bitcoin's price has been testing its highs and lows since early September, with a recent dip to around $76,430 after a blocked CLARITY Act vote and a fresh Federal Reserve rate hike.

The distribution phase is typically followed by a break in either direction, but the odds are split roughly 60/40. Historically, this pattern has resolved bearishly about half the time, although it's not a certainty. Two previous cycles saw this pattern resolve with a break higher and a break lower respectively.

Bitcoin's price is currently sitting inside a narrow window of days from its halving low, as per Bitbo's four-year cycle model. This setup rhymes with past cycles, but doesn't guarantee a repeat. The current cycle may be nearing the end of its drawdown, rather than the start of a deeper one.

The timing and outcome are uncertain, and could be influenced by outside factors such as a credit event or policy surprise. Traders tend to handle this kind of uncertainty through dollar-cost averaging, rather than trying to time the market's low.
