Bitcoin ETFs Drain $389.7M as Token's Price Stagnates
Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced their largest outflow in six weeks as the token's price stagnated around $63,000. The 13 US-listed Bitcoin ETFs saw a net withdrawal of $389.7 million last week after attracting $853.5 million the previous week.
This significant reversal comes on the heels of a strong start to August, which marked the largest weekly inflows for the funds since April. However, the renewed selling pressure is attributed to the subdued mood in the Bitcoin market, with sentiment remaining cautious and bordering on pessimistic.
According to Esme Pau, head of capital markets and policy at blockchain security firm CertiK, 'Last week's ETF net outflows reflect the subdued mood in the Bitcoin market.' The lack of legislative progress in the US on the proposed Clarity Act, a crypto market structure bill, is also contributing to the buyers' hesitation.
The risk of higher interest rates and the stagnation of Bitcoin's price are further weighing on sentiment. As a result, the Bitcoin implied volatility index remains below its average for the year, indicating reduced market expectations for price swings in the near future.
