Bitcoin Exchange Reserve Inflow Signals Pre-Fed Positioning Ahead of Rate Decision
The Bitcoin exchange reserve data shows a significant shift in supply-side positioning ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision on September 16. Over the 72 hours surrounding the announcement, there was a net inflow of +10,701 BTC onto exchanges, with the largest single-hour inflow of +3,753 BTC occurring exactly three hours before the FOMC announcement.
This movement erases the bullish supply signal that characterized early September outflows and removes the previous supply-side floor that supported price during the drawdown. The data suggests that holders were positioning themselves to take advantage of anticipated volatility in the wake of the rate decision, rather than simply hedging against it.
The exchange reserve level has recovered to 2.718 million BTC, a net gain of +14,800 BTC from the September 5 low. Whether this represents a distribution event or an unwound hedge will be determined by whether reserves continue rising above 2.718 million BTC or resume outflows below 2.700 million BTC.
