Bitcoin Faces Perfect Storm as 'Rektember' Kicks Off

Bitcoin (BTC) has entered what could be its toughest month yet, dubbed 'Rektember' by some analysts. After surging 25% in August, the largest cryptocurrency is now facing a perfect storm of headwinds that could put a dent in its rally. September has historically been Bitcoin's worst month, with an average loss of nearly 3% since 2013 and only five positive returns in thirteen years.

The recent Jackson Hole speech by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, which leaned heavily on elevated inflation, sent bond yields soaring to new cycle highs and the US 10-year reaching 4.784%. Markets now price a 66% chance of a 25-basis-point hike at the September 16 meeting, with another possible hike before year-end.

Higher rates tighten financial conditions and lift the dollar, which is a standard headwind for anything on the risk end of the curve. The combination of war in Iran, higher oil prices, inflation, and potential rate hikes could put significant pressure on Bitcoin's price.
