Bitcoin Facing $85,000 Resistance in Key Market Test
Bitcoin has repeatedly tested the $85,000 level, only to be pushed back, making it a critical point of resistance. Analysts view this price as a potential catalyst for a structural shift in the market, separating continued sideways trading from a more significant upward move.
A large sell wall on Binance, concentrated between $85,000 and $85,500, has been a major obstacle. This wall tripled in size after September 24, 2026, but partially cleared around October 2, allowing Bitcoin to briefly reach $87,000. As of October 6, Bitcoin was trading between $85,000 and $86,000, having fluctuated between $83,000 and $87,000 throughout September and October 2026.
Long-term holders are also contributing to the selling pressure, with the $84,000 to $85,000 range identified as the heaviest concentration of their supply. While spot Bitcoin ETF inflows have been modest, they have not been sufficient to offset the selling from long-term holders. Analysts note that a sustained break above $85,000 is necessary for a rally to gain momentum.
Another resistance level has been identified around $87,000, with about half the volume of the $85,000 wall. Key factors to watch include whether the Binance sell wall rebuilds, the behavior of long-term holders, and the direction of ETF flows.
