Bitcoin Holds Firm at $80K Amid Regulatory Fears

Bitcoin opened this week trading around $80,000 after briefly reaching $81,700 last week. Despite uncertainty over US monetary policy, Bitcoin has maintained most of its recent gains.

The price action is notable given several key developments in the market. The US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded nearly $1 billion in weekly net inflows from August 31 to September 4, with BlackRock's IBIT attracting approximately $691.5 million by itself. This marks a positive three-week run for ETF demand.

However, another significant issue has emerged in the form of regulatory uncertainty. Senator Cynthia Lummis has warned that failure to pass the CLARITY Act could leave lawmakers without another realistic opportunity to advance comprehensive digital-asset market structure legislation until 2030.

Lummis' warning highlights the importance of clearer federal rules for US crypto markets. Failure to pass legislation could prolong regulatory uncertainty across the wider industry, making it more difficult for exchanges, custodians, and other financial institutions to operate in the US crypto market.
