Bitcoin Holds Ground Above $77K Amid Record-Setting Week
Bitcoin's price has remained above $77,000 after reaching a multi-month peak. Despite briefly dipping below $74,000 due to a sell-off wave, the cryptocurrency quickly rebounded and is now on track for its best week in August.
The price action has forced even prominent skeptics to take notice, with Peter Schiff acknowledging that Bitcoin is functioning as an alternative to gold during monetary debasement. 'Gold hitting $4,600, silver near $70, oil over $87, and bitcoin's earlier spike above $79K show the Fed has lost all credibility on its commitment to returning inflation to 2%', Schiff said.
Short traders have been left licking their wounds, with nearly $709 million in short bets on Bitcoin being wiped out compared to just $139 million in long bets. The cryptocurrency's performance over the last four days has also trimmed its year-to-date losses from nearly 30% down to 11.4%, highlighting how its volatility functions as both a liability and a catalyst.
