Bitcoin Nears Bullish Moving Average Alignment Not Seen Since 2025
Bitcoin (BTC) is currently experiencing a downturn, but its broader trend suggests a potential shift. The cryptocurrency's 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day moving averages are close to aligning in a bullish pattern, which hasn't occurred since 2025. This alignment would see the 50-day average above the 100-day, and the 100-day above the 200-day, indicating strong upward momentum across short, medium, and long-term trends.
As of now, the 50-day average stands at $79,495, already above the other two. The 100-day average, at $79,493, is rising and nearing the 200-day average of $79,539. Once this crossover happens, all three averages will stack in a bullish order, reinforcing the positive trend. Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus exchange, noted that this alignment hasn't been seen since June 24, 2025.
Traders use moving averages to gauge market direction. When short-term averages are above long-term ones, it signals stronger recent prices, a sign of upward momentum. The impending signal suggests Bitcoin's recent price recovery is genuine, with a 40% surge to $87,000 in the third quarter. However, the ascent has stalled around $85,000 due to a rising U.S. Dollar Index.
Historically, such alignments have sometimes marked the start of major rallies. For instance, an alignment in October 2020 held until May 2021, during which Bitcoin hit a record high above $64,000. Another in November 2023 lasted until May 2024, with Bitcoin doubling from $35,000 to $73,000. Yet, not all alignments have been fruitful; the June 2025 alignment lasted 97 days with only modest gains.
Subburaj cautioned that while the crossover strengthens the trend case, it doesn't guarantee its continuation. The real test will be whether Bitcoin's spot price can stay above its 50-day average during a correction. He emphasized that the asset's price behavior post-crossover will determine if the bullish structure is sustained or short-lived.
