Bitcoin: Saylor Sees Digital Empowerment in Cryptocurrency
Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, sees Bitcoin as a means of 'digital empowerment' that allows individuals and companies to store value outside traditional financial systems. This is because Bitcoin can be transferred globally without relying on intermediaries, unlike cash held in banks.
Saylor contrasted Bitcoin with other stores of wealth such as real estate, gold, and stocks. He noted that while real estate preserves purchasing power, it comes with taxes, maintenance costs, and limited portability. Gold is scarce but difficult to transport, while equities depend on corporate performance and access to developed financial markets.
Saylor believes Bitcoin offers global liquidity and a fixed supply capped at 21 million coins. He acknowledged that broad equity indexes like the S&P 500 remain viable long-term wealth-preservation tools, but Bitcoin remains his preferred asset for its portability and censorship resistance.
