Bitcoin Sees Best August in Years, But September Volatility Looms

Bitcoin (BTC) has just wrapped up its best August in years, but September might be a different story. The cryptocurrency's price surge, which saw it rebound by as much as 25%, was described by some as one of the largest short squeezes in Bitcoin's history.

However, not everyone is convinced that this rally will continue. Bloomberg's macro strategist Mike McGlone remains bearish on Bitcoin, arguing that its high correlation with equities and the prospect of higher interest rates make it vulnerable to volatility.

McGlone views the recent price action as an opportunity to sell, specifically targeting the $77,000 to $78,000 range. He expects risk assets to struggle if stocks enter a normal correction, which could lead to amplified downside for Bitcoin due to its historically higher volatility.

On the other hand, investor Dave Nadig pushed back against McGlone's bearish view, arguing that the recent rally reflects more than just a technical squeeze. He expects Bitcoin to consolidate after its unusually strong weekly move, potentially trading between the low-$70,000s and high-$70,000s for several weeks.

Nadig also pointed out that several headwinds that previously weighed on Bitcoin have started fading, including forced deleveraging and concerns over quantum-computing risks. He believes Bitcoin's role as a monetary asset is returning to focus as investors revisit currency debasement and hard-asset exposure.
