Bitcoin Smashes $75,000 Barrier as Short Squeeze Fuels Crypto Rally
Bitcoin broke through the $75,000 level after 86 days of trading below it, sparking a strong rally across the digital asset market. The surge was fueled by falling U.S. Treasury yields and expectations of crypto deregulation.
The catalyst for this rally was the U.S. Treasury's announcement of expanded bond buybacks, which more than doubled its current program to counter rising long-term yields. As a result, investor attention shifted toward risk assets including Bitcoin.
Expectations of reduced regulatory uncertainty also supported buying sentiment. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, a bill that would ease crypto regulations and classify sufficiently decentralized cryptocurrencies as 'digital commodities' under the oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
A massive short squeeze also contributed to the upside, with leveraged digital asset positions worth over $3 billion being forcibly liquidated. However, some analysts are cautious about the sustainability of this rally, noting that open interest in perpetual futures markets has not recovered.
