Bitcoin Soars 44% in Q3, Largest Quarterly Gain Since 2024
Bitcoin wrapped up its strongest quarter since Q1 2024, with a gain of 44% for Q3 2026. The asset closed the quarter between $84,000 and $86,000, up from its opening price of $58,500 to $58,600. This performance is even more impressive when compared to the 8-9% average return for Bitcoin's third quarter over the years.
The quarterly rally was driven by a reversal in money moving through US spot Bitcoin ETFs. At the end of July, these funds had seen $5 billion in year-to-date outflows, but by late September, that had flipped to $1 billion in net inflows. This swing of about $6 billion is a significant indication of institutional investors' confidence in Bitcoin.
The SEC's exemptions for tokenized-stock platforms in late September also provided a boost to the market. While these exemptions do not directly impact Bitcoin, they signal a regulator willing to accommodate blockchain-based financial products.
Despite this strong quarter, Bitcoin still has a long way to go to reach its all-time high of nearly $126,000, which it hit in October 2025. To revisit this mark, the asset would need to climb around 50% from its current price.
