Bitcoin Soars Above $64K as Diplomatic Progress Fuels Risk Asset Bets
Bitcoin has rebounded to above $64,000 in price after initially recovering from a local minimum of $62,200. This uptrend follows reports that the US, Iran, and Oman are making progress towards finding a solution regarding the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
The increased speculation surrounding a potential thaw in geopolitical tensions has led to increased bets on risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. According to Axios, officials close to signing an interim agreement to resume normal traffic on the waterway, with US President Donald Trump wanting the announcement made later today.
Under the proposed framework, incoming vessels would navigate through the northern shipping lane controlled by Iran while outgoing traffic would transit the southern route in Omani waters. The provisional arrangement also involves waiving charges for transit in both directions for the first 60 days and clearing naval mines from the central lane of the strait.
Bitcoin is currently trading at $64,367, having broken back above the $64,000 resistance level. Analysts note that while this rally may be fueled by short-term geopolitical headlines, a permanent diplomatic resolution will be necessary for investors to accept as a proper breakout.
