Bitcoin Surges Above $81K on Federal Reserve Rate Hike
The recent rate hike by the Federal Reserve has been credited by Arthur Hayes, CEO of Flop Labs, as the reason for Bitcoin's price surge above $81,000. According to Hayes, 'we didn't need some nonsense piece of crypto regulation, Clarity Act, just a rate hike that puts more dollars in the hands of rich people to consume more financial assets.'
The Federal Open Market Committee voted 12-0 on Wednesday to raise the target range for the federal funds rate by a quarter point to 3.75% to 4%, marking its first increase since July 2023. This move was seen as a mid-cycle adjustment rather than a cyclical policy shift, with Grayscale's head of research, Zach Pandl, arguing that it is unlikely to drive major changes in crypto markets.
Pandl pointed out that the hike may have some direct effects on stablecoin issuers such as Circle and Tether, which earn higher revenues when cash rates rise. However, Hayes remains optimistic about the impact of the rate hike on Bitcoin's price, saying it channels more money to wealthy holders of financial assets.
