Bitcoin Surges Past $81,000 as Investors Bet on Further Gains

Bitcoin's value surged more than 5% on Friday to surpass $81,000 as investors took a risk-on approach, overlooking the failure of the Clarity Act and the Federal Reserve's recent rate hike. The world's largest cryptocurrency rose in response to traders' shifting sentiment, with crypto derivatives traders heavily positioned in call options betting on a higher price.

Nic Puckrin, cross-asset analyst and founder of Coin Bureau, explained that once Bitcoin broke past its resistance level around $78,000, shorts were liquidated, pushing the price towards $80,000. However, he noted that the real test lies in the $80,000-$82,000 range, where resistance is stronger.

The broader crypto market has demonstrated resilience this week despite the Clarity Act's failure to clear a vote on cloture in the Senate. The Securities and Exchange Commission responded by announcing a temporary exemption allowing trading in certain tokenized stocks on blockchain venues for the next five years.
