Bitcoin Surges to Eight-Month High Amid Regulatory Relief
Bitcoin has reached an eight-month high after a disappointing Senate vote last week. The world's largest cryptocurrency is now within reach of reversing its year-to-date losses, which were recently under 3%.
The recent surge in Bitcoin's price follows regulatory developments that have provided a boost to the crypto market. While a key crypto bill called the Clarity Act failed to advance after a disappointing procedural vote, both the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission stepped in with agency-level exemptions and rules proposals.
BTC has traded near $86,000 this morning, while other cryptocurrencies like Coinbase (COIN) have gained around 5% in recent trading. Strategy's stockpile stands at 846,000 bitcoin, which is near its peak of 847,363. Jay Kaeppel from SentimenTrader notes that the 'bounce may have legs,' citing his firm's long-term sentiment and momentum indicators.
BTC has outperformed over the last five trading sessions despite the Federal Reserve's hiking of its benchmark interest rate last week. Higher rates tend to weigh on risk assets, making bond yields more attractive by comparison. However, BTC has risen more than 8% compared to the S&P 500's 1% gain.
