Bitcoin Tops $69,000 as Crypto Rally Accelerates
Bitcoin's price surged past $69,000 on Thursday after a strong rally in cryptocurrency markets. The move follows a broad-based advance that saw Ether surge 18% to over $2,250 and other major cryptocurrencies also rise.
The rally is attributed to falling Treasury yields, which have eased pressure across financial markets and encouraged investors to seek out riskier assets. Additionally, the US Treasury's announcement to double its longer-dated bond buybacks to $4 billion has improved liquidity in the government bond market.
Bitcoin's advance was further amplified by forced buying from traders who had bet on falling prices, with over $1 billion in short positions liquidated within about an hour during the sharpest part of the move. Crypto-related shares also rallied, with Coinbase, Strategy, and Circle all rising significantly.
