Bitcoin Trapped in Tight Range as Weekend Momentum Fades
Bitcoin's price action has been characterized as a waiting game on its 1-hour chart, with the cryptocurrency trading in a narrow rangebound balance between $79,586 and $80,147. The market has seen a sharp decline in volume, typical of weekends, with Saturday and Sunday bars logging a fraction of the Sept. 3-4 spike.
The immediate battle is taking place across this tight range, with traders dealing with thin weekend liquidity. A break and hold above $80,147 could put $80,335 and then $80,523 in play, while a break and hold below $79,586 would point toward $78,650.
Zooming out to the 4-hour structure shows how Bitcoin's price ended up here. The market came out swinging on Sept. 3, pushing into roughly $81,400 to $82,200 before being rejected. Since then, both range and volume have collapsed, with the market stabilizing near the midpoint of $79,900 to $80,100.
For the short-term setup, clearing $80,335 would strengthen the bullish trend, while losing $79,586 would weaken it. The momentum oscillator reads minus 379 and is rated bearish, but the moving-average (MA) stack still looks stronger, with Bitcoin's price above every listed major daily moving average.
