Bitcoin's Age: Strength or Weakness in the Eyes of Crypto Investors?
Bitcoin's age is being questioned by venture capitalist Jason Calacanis, who compared it to 'the CD in the age of Spotify' and 'the DVD in the age of Netflix'. This comes as BTC returned above $80,000 on Friday. Calacanis argued that Bitcoin is no longer the most sophisticated blockchain for payments, smart contracts or applications.
However, Michael Saylor, Strategy chairman, sees almost the exact opposite. He pointed to Bitcoin's roughly $1.6 trillion valuation and described its primary use case as 'digital capital': an asset designed to preserve wealth rather than compete with newer blockchains feature for feature.
The debate highlights a tension within the Bitcoin community. Some argue that the network's resistance to rapid change can make it less flexible, but this predictability is also central to the investment thesis. The maximum supply of BTC remains 21 million coins, while its monetary rules are deliberately difficult to alter.
