Investing in Bitcoin (BTC) on September 3, 2016, would have returned an astonishing $126,810 today, a staggering 12,581% increase over the past decade. This is according to data from YCharts, which shows that a $1,000 investment in BTC back then would now be worth roughly six figures.

The returns are even more impressive when compared to other mainstream assets. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 index funds returned around 18% and 14%, respectively, while gold's annualized return was a mere 13%. Bitcoin's 62% annual rate of return dwarfs these figures.

The journey to these returns was not without its challenges. Bitcoin suffered significant crashes along the way, with some investors opting to sell due to the perceived risks. However, major institutions across Wall Street have now started to take notice and hold BTC.
