Bitfinex Securities Aims to Democratize Capital Access Through Tokenisation
Tokenisation is often framed as a way to expand investor access, such as allowing fractional ownership of assets like Apple shares. However, Bitfinex Securities argues that the true potential lies in helping businesses raise capital more efficiently. The tokenised real-world assets market, excluding stablecoins, is currently worth around $40 billion, with projections suggesting it could reach trillions by 2030. Bitfinex Securities recently crossed $500 million in listed assets in September.
The company emphasizes that tokenisation should not just create new trading opportunities but also address the broader issue of capital accessibility for businesses. Paolo Ardoino, Bitfinex CTO, noted that regulatory frameworks are crucial for making capital more accessible. The platform already offers advantages like zero trading fees, real-time settlement, and faster issuance times compared to traditional methods.
Bitfinex Securities is focusing on servicing businesses that struggle to access capital markets, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in remote areas. The company is also expanding its product range, including commodities, public and private equity, and fixed income. Paolo highlighted the importance of cost reduction, aiming to cut the cost for companies to raise capital by 80% within five years.
The company operates in jurisdictions like Kazakhstan and El Salvador, where regulatory frameworks are described as cautious and investor-friendly. Paolo praised El Salvador's efforts to transform its financial system, noting that Tether moved its headquarters there in 2025. Bitfinex Securities plans to list various assets, including public equity, ETFs, funds, and private equity, in the second half of 2026.
