Bitget Exits Japan Under Regulatory Pressure

Share

Bitget has announced its withdrawal from Japan's cryptocurrency market due to regulatory pressure. The platform, which halted new user registrations from Japan in August, is now requiring existing users to verify their residential location or risk having their accounts restricted. Users identified as potential Japanese residents must finalize Level 2 identity authentication by November 1, 2026.

The verification process requires proof of a residential address and additional identification materials that establish the account owner's current location. Accounts remaining unverified past the November cut-off will be automatically categorized as Japan-based under Bitget's exit strategy.

Bitget will commence restricting platform features for verified Japanese users starting November 1, 2026. The platform intends to clarify available fund withdrawal methods and asset handling procedures via targeted correspondence.
