Bitget Hacked: $351.6M Stolen by Suspected North Korean Group

Share

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has confirmed that approximately $351.6 million was stolen after attackers gained unauthorized access to part of its wallet infrastructure.

The incident occurred on September 24, 2026, at 18:31 UTC when Bitget's security systems identified unauthorized transfers involving several hot wallets. The exchange suspended withdrawals and flagged the receiving addresses, contacting law enforcement and blockchain security companies in the process.

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen stated that deposits and trading remained available, and customer balances were accurate. However, the exchange's cold wallets had not been affected.

Chen suspects that North Korea's Lazarus Group was responsible for the theft. The group has previously been linked to major cryptocurrency heists, including a $1.4 billion attack against Bybit in 2025. Chen stated that she had encountered the group before, having lost approximately $80,000 from one of her personal wallets outside Bitget.
