Bitget's Hack Grows to $387.5 Million After Additional Assets Identified
Bitget's hack has grown in estimated value by $36 million, reaching $387.5 million after further analysis identified additional assets taken during the breach on September 24th.
The exchange's CEO, Gracy Chen, revealed that Zcash and TRON assets were initially overlooked, which led to the increase in estimated losses. The new total includes unauthorized transactions made during the original incident, with no additional unauthorized transfers since detected.
Bitget is working with security firms Mandiant and SlowMist to investigate the breach and freeze the stolen funds. Other exchanges, such as Binance and Bybit, are supporting Bitget in its recovery efforts.
The exchange has established a Recovery Bounty Program, offering rewards of 5% for frozen or returned assets. Eligible parties can receive this reward through voluntary actions that freeze stolen funds. Additionally, Bitget is providing an API containing attacker addresses to help exchanges and other infrastructure providers track the stolen funds.
