BitGo Introduces Quantum Risk Management Tools for Institutional Bitcoin Wallets
BitGo has introduced four new controls to help institutional Bitcoin wallets manage quantum risk. The company's Quantum Risk Score measures public-key exposure and identifies areas where funds may be at risk if a cryptographically relevant quantum computer were to derive private keys from public keys.
The four controls aim to reduce exposure by consolidating Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs), remedying exposed addresses, adjusting wallet defaults automatically, and providing a new UTXO selection method that groups coins by address. This approach is intended to avoid leaving funds behind after a spend exposes the relevant public key.
The tools apply to supported Bitcoin multi-signature wallets, but do not change the underlying signature system or protect the network on its own. BitGo's controls are focused on operational preparation and do not replace any future Bitcoin protocol upgrade.
