BitMart Shutdown Sparks Withdrawal Bottlenecks and BMX Collapse
BitMart's decision to wind down its operations has led to withdrawal bottlenecks and a significant decline in the value of BMX, its native token. The exchange announced that it will cease trading on August 26 and shut down entirely by January 31, 2027. As users attempted to withdraw their funds, they encountered delays, freeze notices, and even transactions marked as complete without appearing on-chain.
According to Lookonchain, only 58 wallets withdrew a total of approximately $805,000 over more than 24 hours, with no withdrawals processed during the latest eight-hour window monitored. The exchange attributed this to enhanced verification checks for customer identities, login devices, withdrawal addresses, trading histories, sources of funds, and ownership of receiving wallets.
BMX collapsed by 81.5% in just seven days, plummeting to around $0.057 from its previous value of roughly $0.31. The rapid decline reflects the rapidly deteriorating confidence among customers as they question their access to remaining funds.
