BitMine Nears 5% Ethereum Ownership Amid Strong Q3 Performance
BitMine is nearing its goal of owning 5% of Ethereum's circulating supply, currently holding about 4.9%. Last week, the company added 15,112 ETH to its holdings, bringing its total to 6.016 million tokens, worth approximately $16.16 billion. This aggressive accumulation contrasts with recent outflows from US spot Ethereum ETFs, which saw $138 million in net withdrawals last week. BitMine's strategy, dubbed the "Alchemy of 5%," reflects persistent, price-insensitive demand, while ETF flows have turned temporarily negative.
Ethereum surged over 70% in the third quarter, its strongest performance since early 2021. BitMine Chairman Thomas Lee noted that ETH outperformed the S&P 500 by 6,832 basis points during this period, despite challenging macroeconomic conditions. However, the strong returns have coincided with weaker market liquidity, with Ethereum's median liquidity now only 35%, 45% of Bitcoin's, compared to at least 60% in 2025. Thinner liquidity could amplify price movements, increasing the risk of sharp volatility.
BitMine has also maintained significant staking holdings, with approximately 5.067 million ETH staked through its Made in America Validator Network (MAVAN) and other partners. The company estimates annualized staking revenue of $363 million. Additionally, BitMine holds 214 Bitcoin, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries, and a $117 million stake in Eightco Holdings, alongside $643 million in cash and marketable securities.
Technically, Ethereum faces key resistance at $2,790, with potential upside targets at $2,880 and $3,066. Support is currently near $2,657, with further downside risks at $2,550 and $2,432. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 59, indicating bullish momentum. However, traders are cautioned by recent liquidations, including $22.5 million over 24 hours, with $12.9 million in longs, highlighting the potential for accelerated price movements.
