BlackRock’s Stance on XRP ETFs Keeps Investors Cautious
Despite the launch of seven different spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs), BlackRock, the $15 trillion asset management giant, has no plans to introduce its own XRP ETF. This reluctance is notable given BlackRock's dominance in the crypto ETF space, with the largest spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) ETFs under its management.
The existing seven spot XRP ETFs have attracted $1.77 billion in investments, a figure significantly lower than the $8 billion originally projected. Major players like Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, 21Shares, and Bitwise have entered the market, yet BlackRock remains unmoved. The company cites insufficient client demand as the primary reason for not launching an XRP ETF.
BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), boasts $67 billion in assets under management, while its Ethereum ETF, the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), holds $10 billion. These figures dwarf the combined assets of the seven XRP ETFs, highlighting the disparity in investor interest.
XRP, currently the fifth-largest cryptocurrency with a market cap of nearly $100 billion, is trading at $1.50. Analysts had predicted a substantial influx of funds into XRP, but the actual investment has fallen short of expectations. Without BlackRock's involvement, the likelihood of a significant price surge for XRP appears slim.
