BlackRock's XRP ETF Absence Fuels Bearish Outlook on Cryptocurrency
Despite the launch of seven spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs), BlackRock, the $15 trillion asset management giant, has no plans to introduce its own XRP ETF. This hesitation is a significant factor contributing to a bearish outlook on XRP, the world's fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, which stands at nearly $100 billion.
The seven existing spot XRP ETFs have collectively attracted $1.77 billion in assets under management, a figure far below the $8 billion originally projected by analysts. Major players like Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, 21Shares, and Bitwise have entered the space, but BlackRock's absence remains notable. The firm prioritizes client demand for new funds, and current interest in XRP simply isn't sufficient to justify launching a new ETF.
Comparatively, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) boasts $67 billion in assets, while its iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) holds $10 billion. The stark difference underscores the limited appeal of XRP in the broader crypto ETF market. Analysts had anticipated higher investor enthusiasm, but the actual inflows suggest overestimated demand.
XRP is currently trading at $1.50, and without a major influx of capital, its upward potential appears limited. BlackRock's stance indicates that significant investment in XRP is unlikely in the near term, prompting a cautious approach for potential investors.
