The Blockchain Association has announced that Summer Mersinger will step down as CEO on October 16, 2026. Mersinger joined the organization in June 2025 after leaving her role at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Kristin Smith, a former CEO of the Blockchain Association and current president of the Solana Policy Institute, will return to lead the group on an interim basis. This change comes just over a week after the Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.

Mersinger cited her work on the GENIUS Act as one of her achievements during her time at the organization. The law provides regulation for stablecoins, and Mersinger emphasized that she believed the industry needed clear rules 'of the road' in Washington. Smith praised Mersinger's leadership through what she called the most consequential period in crypto policy history.
