Summer Mersinger is stepping down as CEO of the Blockchain Association, one of the crypto industry's leading advocacy groups. This move comes just a week after the sector suffered a major legislative setback with the failure of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate.

Mersinger will be replaced by Kristin Smith, the organization's original CEO who ran the association from its launch in 2018 until 15 months ago. The handover is set for October 16, marking the end of Mersinger's tenure at the helm.

Smith had previously left the Blockchain Association to take a role as president of the Solana Policy Institute, but retained her position on the BA board. She will continue to lead SPI while taking over as interim CEO of the Blockchain Association.
