Blockchain.com Readies $500M IPO Amid Cryptocurrency Market Rebound
Blockchain.com is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) that could value the digital asset industry pioneer at between $4 billion and $6 billion. The company, which confidentially filed its offering materials with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this year, aims to raise around $500 million in the listing.
The prospective IPO comes as capital market conditions for cryptocurrency firms show signs of thawing after a turbulent cycle. Blockchain.com has been profitable for three consecutive years and is attempting to capitalize on a broader market rebound that has seen digital asset valuations recover 33% since mid-August.
A successful listing would test institutional appetite following a rocky period for retail-facing crypto listings, which have left shares of several companies down by as much as 80%. Blockchain.com's previous attempt at going public in 2022 was put on hold, but the company has continued to grow and raise capital, including a $110 million Series E round led by Kingsway Capital in 2023 that valued it at less than half its peak $14 billion valuation.
The company's timing highlights a broader trend of digital asset infrastructure providers eyeing public liquidity. Payward Inc., the parent company of Kraken exchange operator, is also pursuing a listing but has faced delays and may not materialize until 2027, according to Bloomberg reporting.
