Bloomberg has expanded its Crypto Exposure Analytics to help financial firms comply with the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's (BCBS) prudential standards for crypto asset exposure. The updated solution allows clients to identify, classify, and report crypto-related exposure across various asset classes, including ETFs, mutual funds, equities, derivatives, and corporate bonds. The tool covers 110 spot tickers, 950 listed futures contracts, 320,000 listed options contracts, and 125,000 unique fund tickers, among others.

The BCBS framework categorizes crypto exposure into four groups: Group 1a, Group 1b, Group 2a, and Group 2b. Bloomberg's analytics have identified approximately 1,700 funds with potential relevance under the framework, with roughly half not explicitly stating crypto exposure in their investment strategies. This highlights the need for scalable and transparent exposure classification.

Steven Davis, Global Head of Equity and Listed Derivative Product Reference Data at Morgan Stanley, praised the solution, stating it provides the transparency and classification capabilities needed to support regulatory compliance and risk oversight. Zane Van Dusen, Global Head of Risk & Investment Analytics Products at Bloomberg, emphasized the difficulty of identifying crypto exposure hidden within complex financial instruments.

Bloomberg's Crypto Exposure Analytics is available via Bloomberg Data License and can be delivered through SFTP, REST API, or cloud environments. The data can also be accessed within the Bloomberg Terminal via specific worksheets. This announcement is part of Bloomberg's broader digital assets roadmap, which includes initiatives with Kaiko and the launch of a stablecoin dashboard.
